Things to Do in Altinkum

Activities, attractions and day trips in and around Altinkum.

Day Time in Altinkum

Obviously there is the beach, and plenty of boat trips from the harbour. A small shopping centre offers very good value leather goods and jewellery (don't forget to haggle). You can buy souvenirs and the famous fake-designer gear which looks very authentic. Plenty of day trips can be booked locally.

Apollo Temple

The Apollo Temple can be found in the ancient town of Didim, 5-10 minutes away by local dolmus. An impressive ancient site well worth a visit. Small entrance charge.

Ephesus

A magnificent day out. The second-largest ancient site in the world, Ephesus is the best-preserved classical city of the Eastern Mediterranean. Also home to the House of the Virgin Mary.

Pamukkale

Unique in the world with its cascading thermal waters forming crystallised, dazzling-white frozen waterfalls. The waters have been used for therapeutic treatments since Roman times. Cleopatra's Spa is here too.

Jeep Safari

Through olive groves and hillsides to turquoise bays for swimming. See typical Turkish villages where you experience the true Turkey. You will get wet and dusty, so dress accordingly — an exciting, fun day out.

Altinkum Aqua Park

Just outside Altinkum, set on a hill on the way to Soke. Built in 2004 and popular with English tourists. Only 15 minutes by local bus.

Adaland Aqua Park

In Kusadasi, a 50-minute drive from Altinkum. Europe's largest water park — 25 acres with 20+ fantastic rides. Caters for all ages, including a lazy river for those who want to relax.

Turkish Bath

One of the nicest, most relaxing things you can do in Turkey — sauna, marble rub-down, soap-foam massage, head shampoo massage and oil massage. Not to be missed.

Beauty Treatments

Manicures, pedicures and traditional Turkish shaves (cut-throat razor, if you dare!) cost a fraction of UK prices. Hair salons offer cut and blow-dry, perms and colouring at very reasonable prices.

Lake Bafa

Formed by an earthquake in the 17th century and covering 7,000 hectares, Lake Bafa lies between Soke and Bodrum with small lakeside restaurants and the remains of a Byzantine monastery.

Bodrum & Bodrum Castle

Built by the Knights of Rhodes in the 15th century, Bodrum Castle took 99 years to complete. It houses one of the most important museums of its kind in the world. 1h 30m from Altinkum.

Izmir

A very interesting city with a lot of history and fantastic shopping. Makes a great day out — trips can be arranged locally.

Kusadasi

A wonderful, cosmopolitan holiday resort reachable by local dolmus — 90km away. Wonderful beaches, shops, bars and restaurants, plus cruise-liner stops.

Cesme

Meaning ‘fountain’, named for its thermal spas and golden beaches. One of Turkey's most beautiful stretches, surrounded by clear blue seas and landscapes of aniseed, sesame and artichokes.

Diving

The crystal-clear waters in Altinkum offer a variety of diving. You can expect to see moray eels, octopus, tuna, jacks, barracuda, lobster and dolphins.

Horse Riding (Pegasus)

Altinkum has its own Horse Ranch called Pegasus, near Third Beach. Horse safari trips along paths that stop by the sea for a cool-off and lunch.

5 Island Boat Trip

A wonderful day out on calm, crystal-clear waters. Enjoy Aegean coast views, with lunch and drinks included.

Car Hire

Can be booked almost everywhere. Driving in Turkey is extremely easy — petrol stations are open 24 hours, attended, and signposting is clear.

Outlet Shopping

30 minutes along the road to Kusadasi. Levi's, Converse, shoes, household items, Toys R Us and McDonalds — everything at a discount.

Night Life

Altinkum's harbour and Dolphin Square have lively bars, pubs and clubs — something for everyone. Restaurants offer English, Italian, Mexican, Turkish, Chinese and more. Try a traditional Turkish clay-pot dish for the full fire-and-dancing treatment.

Didim Marina

Launched in February 2007 with a big ceremony attended by the Transport Minister Binali Yildirim, Didim Marina is a modern deep-water marina serving the resort year-round.
